LA PLATA, Md. — A Charles County man has been sentenced to 78 years in prison for murdering his sleeping friend and other charges.

The Charles County State's Attorney office said 27-year-old Janeal Jerome Thompson entered a guilty plea back in August after a 6-day trial.

Investigators discovered that on October 28, Thompson was sitting behind Ronarj Henderson when he shot the victim in the head, on their way to the gas station. Officials said Thompson threw a jacket over the victim's body while his ex-girlfriend Sarah Elizabeth Defilippo continued to drive. Another friend, Steven Tyler Danielson was present at the time of the shooting.

Thompson told Defilippo to pick up Eric Nolan Washington, so they could hide the Henderson's body in a wooded area of Smith Point Road in Nanjemoy. According to officials, Thompson took his shoes, cell phone and wallet.

Henderson was reported missing for several days before his murder.

Defilippo and Steven Tyler Danielson received 5 years supervised probation. Washington received 3 years in prison.
