A push for Maryland made beer in Annapolis on Thursday.

Comptroller Peter Franchot was joined by Mayors from across the state and Governor Larry Hogan to discuss the benefits of the Reform on Tap act of 2018.

The bill would lift stringent restrictions on crafter breweries in Maryland. Right now, crafter brewers are only allowed to distribute and produce a set amount of product.

Established bars and restaurants are wary of the competition that local breweries would bring and have fought to keep the restrictions in place.

Franchot says the bill would increase that limit and make Maryland a national leader in craft beer.

Governor Hogan and Franchot also formally launched FeBREWary, Maryland's month-long celebration of craft beer.
