Maryland State Police are investigating a deadly pedestrian crash that claimed the life of a 23-year-old box truck driver early Monday morning.

Investigators were able to determine that the driver of the box truck stood outside of the vehicle after stopping it on the right shoulder of Route 15. They say a 2006 Toyota driving southbound rear-ended the truck from behind and stuck and killed 23-year-old driver Austin Jay Sexton.

Police say Sexton was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest and then flown to Shock Trauma before medical personnel pronounced him dead from his injuries.

The driver of the 2006 Toyota suffered no injuries in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
