An inmate was murdered in an Allegany County prison.
Around 2:00 p.m. Saturday the Maryland State Homicide unit was notified by Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services of an inmate death at Washington Correctional Institute.
Maryland State Police officials say they have a suspect in the incident, but the will not be identified until he is charged.
Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Michael Hall, who was serving a sentence of 29 years for murder and weapon charges.
Investigations revealed Hall was in an inside recreation area when he was assaulted and stabbed by another inmate.
Hall was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m.
His body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the cause and manner of death.
Upon completion of the investigation, reports will be forwarded to the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office for a review and determination regarding criminal charges.
