UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Jurors are expected to hear attorneys' opening statements Wednesday in the trial of a white man charged with fatally stabbing a black college student on the University of Maryland's campus.
Sean Urbanski is charged with first-degree murder and a hate crime in the May 2017 killing of 23-year-old Richard Collins III.
Prosecutors claim Urbanski was motivated by a bias against black people. Defense attorneys said Urbanski was extremely drunk that night and maintained there is no evidence of a racist motive for the killing.
