A local volunteer is traveling to the Carolinas to help residents recover after Hurricane Florence hit the area.
The organization had been preparing for the last two weeks in case Florence hit Maryland. Now they're going south to help those affected.
Larry Swerdlin says while he's there, the Red Cross will provide shelter and food to the residents, send cars with supplies out to people who are still in their homes, and give out disaster emergency supplies.
“Hopefully we'll be able to do a little bit of good work, we'll get some help into the hands of the folks that desperately need it, and make their life a little bit better," said Swerdlin.
Volunteers will be in the Carolinas for about two weeks.
