VIENNA, Md. (AP) — A man has been indicted in the 2001 death of a Maryland correctional officer whom authorities say was shot as he traveled home from his late-night shift at a state prison.
Maryland State Police said in a release that John Michael Ingersoll Jr. of East New Market is charged with first- and second-degree murder and other offenses. Police investigators arrested the 46-year-old Ingersoll in Easton on Friday morning, when a Dorchester County grand jury handed down an indictment.
Ingersoll is accused in the death of 31-year-old Gregory Guy Collins of Vienna. Police say the correction division worker and Maryland National Guard member was reported missing when he didn't come home from the Eastern Correctional Institution in Princess Anne. Collins was found later in his vehicle in a wooded area.
