A person is dead after being struck by a train Monday night in Montgomery County.

Officials with the Metro Transit Police say an adult male intentionally placed himself in the path of an arriving Red Line train at the Forest Glen Metro Station located at 9730 Georgia Avenue.

The pedestrian was reportedly pronounced dead on scene.

A Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Emergency Response Team is investigating.

As result, the Red Line is operating on a single track between Silver Spring and Forest Glen.

Delays are expected, as it is unknown when normal operations will resume.
