ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Flags will fly at half-staff to honor a deceased Montgomery County Police Officer, Governor Larry Hogan decreed Monday.

Officer Kyle Olinger passed away on April 18 due to injuries he sustained in the line of duty in 2003. Hogan ordered the lowering of United States and Maryland flags across the state under the auspices of the Honoring Hometown Heroes Act. The flags will remain lowered until sunset on the day of Olinger’s interment.

“Lowering the flags is the least we can do to pay tribute to the life and memory of a true hero, Officer Kyle Olinger,” said Hogan. “Our prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones at this time of mourning. May he rest in peace.”
