SANDY POINT STATE PARK, Md. — On 2020's first day, more than 30 state parks participated in the "First Day Hike".

40 guided tours across the state saw hundreds take the new decade in stride.

From the far reaches of Western Maryland at Swallow Falls, to the Assateague State Park on the Atlantic Ocean, hundreds of Marylanders took advantage of the serenity of our state parks.

Last year, almost 4,000 people hiked 8,500 miles on 36 different 'First Day' hikes. That was triple the previous year.

Some people here said getting outside and enjoying mother nature is a much better way to start of the new year than sitting on the couch trying to get over your New Year Eve's celebration.

So whatever your New Years resolution is, our state parks have a great way to bring in the new year with people that you love and doing things that make you feel good.
