GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) - Maryland state police say a trooper was one of two people injured after a suspected drunk driver rear-ended his patrol car on Interstate 270 in Gaithersburg.
The crash occurred shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday. Police say witnesses reported that the driver of a Lexus sedan veered from the travel lanes onto the shoulder, where she hit the trooper's car. The police car then struck the car in front of it.
The trooper was trapped in a vehicle and was taken to a trauma center. The driver of the Lexus was also hospitalized. Police say the driver and passengers in the other car weren't seriously hurt.
Police say charges are pending against the driver of the Lexus, who was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.
