GLEN BURNIE, Md. — Maryland State Police have charged a driver who allegedly chased after a car that struck him and took off Tuesday evening.

Mark A. Wieland, 43, of Severn, died after his Chevy Silverado struck a utility pole and overturned at Rt. 176 and Telegraph Road.

Police say Weiland was involved in a hit and run with 31-year-old Salah Mamache, who was driving a Honda Civic on I-97 between I-695 and Rt. 100.

Troopers got the call shortly before 4:30 p.m. reporting the Honda was chasing the Chevy at a high rate of speed.

A trooper saw both vehicles pass, at which point Wieland struck another vehicle in the intersection, before crossing into oncoming traffic.

Meanwhile, Mamache continued to follow.

The trooper could then see a crash off in the distance, which turned out to be the overturned Chevy.

Wieland was taken to Shock Trauma where he died.

Mamache told police on scene that he chased the Chevy to get a tag number after his car had been hit. Police did confirm that the Civic sustained minor damage from the hit and run.

He's now charged with negligent homicide and manslaughter and several other crimes.
