Posted

Maryland State Police say investigators are trying to determine what caused a Mercedes Benz to strike several cars on the Capital Beltway before hitting a trooper's cruiser.

Police tweeted Friday morning that 26-year-old Trooper Ezra Ganeshananda is in critical condition at Shock Trauma in Baltimore after the crash Thursday in Lanham.  Ganeshananda was investigating an earlier crash when his cruiser was struck.

Police say in a statement that investigators are trying to figure out why a Mercedes Benz C300 struck several other cars before hitting the cruiser. Police say the Mercedes hit three vehicles and traveled on the left shoulder before crossing several lanes to the right shoulder, where it struck the rear of the cruiser.  No one was injured in the other crashes.

Police say charges are pending.
