Many controversial topics are heading to the Maryland General Assembly this year, including the legalization of recreational marijuana.
While medical marijuana is already legal in Maryland, according to a poll, many believe it should also be legalized for recreational use. The new Gonzales Poll says almost 60 percent of Marylanders surveyed said recreational pot should be legal, and close to 40 percent disagree.
Also, last year, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of allowing each state to decide whether it wants to legalize sports betting. DC started the process of legalizing it before the new year, and Maryland could follow suit.
In the Gonzales Poll, 50 percent said they would like sports betting to be legal in Maryland, and more than 80 percent said the issue should be put up for referendum and decided on by voters, not lawmakers.
