PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — The head basketball coach at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Md. has died from the coronavirus.
Terrance Burke is the first death identified in the state from the COVID-19 pandemic. Ten people in total have died in the state and as of Sunday morning, there are over 1,000 positive cases in the state.
County Executive Angela Alsobrooks said she is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Mr. Burke due to COVID-19. She said the community is praying for his loved ones, as well as all the students and staff at Northwestern.
Counselors are available remotely to support PGCPS students and staff impacted by this loss.
