A shelter has opened in Maryland 's Greater Chesapeake Region, for those residents impacted by the effects of Hurricane Florence.

On Thursday evening, the State of Maryland supported by the American Red Cross opened a shelter for any residents ordered to evacuate or who may have been affected by the hurricane.

The shelter is located inside the Health Professions and Athletics Center at Chesapeake College located at 1000 College Circle Drive in Wye Mills, Maryland.

Evacuees are encouraged to utilize the Red Cross' free 'Safe and Well' website, which allows individuals and organizations to register and post messages or search for loved ones to let them know they are safe.
