SILVER SPRING, Md. — With the federal government shutdown still going on, Rep. Jamie Raskin will join the Amalgamated Transit Union International in providing families with a free meal on January 13 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
We are opening up our doors to all the federal employees, contractors and service industry workers that support our federal agencies for a free meal and camaraderie on Sunday at our headquarters in Silver Spring," said ATU International President Larry Hanley. "All are welcome who have been impacted by this unfortunate shutdown. We want to offer some comfort and a free meal for them and their families."
The event will take place at the Tommy Douglas Conference Center at 10000 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring and all workers need to do is bring their federal employee identification card.
I'm so proud to join with the workers at ATU to host furloughed and unpaid federal workers and their families at our first Sunday Shutdown Supper," said Congressman Raskin. "The labor Movement is reminding us of the kind of solidarity and community that America really stands for. Let all who are hungry from this Shutdown and Lockout come eat!"
The Center has free parking and is accessible by bus.
