Second inmate dies from COVID-19 in Maryland Correctional System

BALTIMORE — The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) has recorded its second death related to the COVID-19 virus.

The victim is an inmate in his 60s who had a number of serious underlying medical conditions. He had been living at Jessup Correctional Institution prior to being hospitalized on April 13.

He died on Monday night.

The Department extends its deepest sympathy to loved ones of the deceased.

DPSCS said they are doing everything possible to combat the spread of COVID-19 and protect its employees and those in its custody.

In keeping with state and federal privacy laws, the Department cannot identify or further discuss the man who died.
