Two people died in a plane crash at the Bay Bridge Airport in Stevensville Tuesday afternoon.

Maryland State Police confirmed that a man and a woman died after a plane crashed into a field across from the airport.

The plane was associated with Chesapeake Sport Pilot, a flight school based at the airport. The school released a statement Tuesday afternoon, saying it extends its "sincerest thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of those involved in this tragedy."

"At this time, details of the accident are still emerging and we will cooperate fully with the (National Transportation Safety Board) so they can have a thorough investigation which will hopefully help prevent this type of horrible accident in the future," the statement read. "Chesapeake Sport Pilot is a close knit community of individuals who share a passion for aviation and I know we will all grieve this loss for some time. We offer our help and support to all those affected."
