If you want to avoid a hold up during your travels, you need to check your wallet.
The Maryland Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) and Maryland Aviation Administration (MDOT MAA) are updating requirements for state IDs.
The updates are to ensure everyone in Maryland is in compliance with the Federal Real ID Act, which Congress passed in 2005.
This means all Marylanders need to update their driver's licenses and/or ID cars by October 2020. After that deadline, anyone taking a commercial flight will be required to have the new ID before boarding.
"We know that driver's licenses and ID cards are critical portion of your everyday life, whether its getting a job, transportation, healthcare and we want to make are that continues to be an easy process," said Chrissy Nizer, MDOT MVA administrator. "So what we're asking today is for all customer to check their Real ID status."
