Study: female doctors make nearly 50% less than male doctors in MD

Female physicians in Maryland make nearly 50% less than male physicians.

That's according to a new survey by Merritt Hawkins.

It showed the average annual salary for a male doctor was $335,000, compared to $224,000 for females.

When compared on a specialty-by-specialty basis, men still made more than women.

Executives at Merritt Hawkins say it's difficult to determine what's to blame for the salary differences.

The survey also found Maryland doctors earn less on average than other physicians nationwide.
