This comes after the reported death of UMD student Olivia Parabol who lost her life from the virus just last Tuesday.

Along with the new cases, there were five previous cases of students with Adenovirus bringing the total number to eight people with the illness.

The University says it's working with the state and county health departments to monitor new cases and coordinate testing. Campus departments are also on alert in increasing cleaning of surfaces and restrooms.

Adenovirus-related illnesses are said to be common causes of colds, but the strands can lead to more serious health issues. Those with medical problems like asthma, diabetes or illnesses that lower their immune system or those who take medicine that lowers their immune system, are more susceptible to a complicated Adenovirus course.
