Dogs can be athletes too! The 24/7 Battle Buddy Summer Games happened from Aug. 18 to Aug. 20 to honor veterans and their Battle Buddies.
Local nonprofit Feherty's Troops First Foundation teamed up with Jessiffany Canine Services, LLC to make the event a success.
Military service members and their dogs went to Wisconsin to compete against each other in a series of competitions. Dogs went through obedience courses, high jump competitions, timed retrieval races and more. It was a test of the dogs' obedience, athletic ability and overall behavior.
Troops First is an organization based in Laurel that assists military service members and their families through several programs. The 24/7 Battle Buddies program matches specially trained dogs with wounded veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan.
This year's summer games were a huge success. At the end of the competition, more than 40 trophies and prizes were handed out.
