A 30-year-old woman found dead on the beach in Ocean City Monday was ruled accidental.
Ocean City Police said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Ashley O’Connor of Plano, Texas died of “asphyxia due to suffocation.” O’Connor was found in a hole covered by sand near 2nd Street.

An investigation revealed that O’Connor walked onto the beach alone around 2 a.m. It’s unclear whether she fell into the hole or climbed in on her own, according to police.
Beachgoers reported seeing a body to city employees around 6:30 a.m. Monday. Her body was removed at approximately 4:15 p.m.
