PJ Schirmer is out of the hospital, but his mental pain remains. He was involved in a DUI crash last weekend with sister Jocelyn Schirmer who died in the crash.

The two were riding with a friend from a party. The driver, Donavan Patterson, ran a red light on McMullen Booth Road hitting Dalton Cox’s vehicle. Troopers said both drivers were drunk. PJ recalls being in the car just before the crash occurred.

“The music was loud, people were drinking, he was speeding and I wasn’t really paying attention,” said Schirmer.

Seven people including PJ were sent to the hospital with minor to series injuries.

“I just remember waking up with blood all over me and seeing the car on fire I was the only one that actually did wake up,” said Schirmer

Troopers charged Patterson with several charges including DUI manslaughter.

Schirmer’s family is focusing on her life and her upcoming memorial service. Friends have started a GoFundMe page for her funeral expenses.

“She was my best friend she was my backbone, every time I needed help I went to her,” said Schirmer.

Schirmer said people need to think before they drink and drive.

“Don't do it just make sure you are watching yourself out there, you could go at any time,” said Schirmer.
