TOWSON, Md. — Every year the Towson Elks and the Towson American Legion hold a memorial service in honor of veterans and active military members.

This year, they had to do things a little different.

The Elks and the Legion held their services separately. The number of participants were limited but the message was still there.

"The meaning of memorial is in memory with this in mind we know the true meaning of Memorial Day. To honor all those American soldiers who died defending our freedom, our right to be free."

The Towson Elks also holds several services and charitable events for veterans throughout the year

They even focus on helping youth, by providing scholarships and Christmas giveaways.
