BALTIMORE — There's a new place to cool off in Locust Point.

Ice Queens Snowball Shop is on the corner of E. Fort Ave. and Andre St. There are dozens of flavors on the menu and a variety of toppings including sprinkles, ice cream and whipped cream.

Ice Queens is owned by 22-year-old Dasia Kabia and her former pediatrician Dr. Monique Burke.

Kabia said she got the idea to open her own snowball shop after working at a snowball stand a couple of years ago. She mentioned the idea to Dr. Burke one day after her little brother's appointment.

"She said 'Hey, that sounds like fun.' We met up together and about a year later we became business partners," Kabia said.

Snowballs are a Baltimore tradition, especially the egg custard flavor, and Kabia says she's very particular about her snowballs.

"I’m the person that’s like this ice, I need it finely shaved. I need the syrup to be perfect and go all the way to the bottom and marshmallow topping and for it to look pretty."

"She’s very good at quality control," said Dr. Burke.

They had hoped to open the snowball shop on April 18 but had to postpone the opening because of COVID-19. They pushed the opening to Memorial Day weekend and say it's been busy ever since.

"One of the reasons we love doing this is we love people and we want to make everybody happy," said Dr. Burke. "We try our best to make everybody happy and everyone seems to be appreciating that."

Ice Queens is open Tuesday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can follow them on Instagram or Facebook.
