ANNAPOLIS, Md — Delegate Kathy Szelgia is pushing to have illegal immigrants turned in to federal officials.

She wants her colleagues to pass House Bill 817, Keep Our Communities Safe Act of 2019. The legislation would require state and local law enforcement to give custody of immigrants who are here illegally to Homeland Security.

She held a conference in Annapolis on Tuesday and included those whose family members were killed by illegal immigrants. Marla Wolff lost her husband in a car crash in Dec. 2018. The driver of the vehicle that struck him was not in the country legally.

"I'm actually more angry that our laws allowed to be on the road," said Wolff. "How many lives must be lost before something is done?"

The bill was also heard by the house judiciary committee.
