ANNAPOLIS, Md — The 57th Governor of Maryland, Harry Hughes, was laid to rest Thursday morning.
Hughes served from 1979 to 1987. He became Governor during a time that the state was suffering from political scandals because of legal problems from Spiro Agnew and Marvin Mandel.
"He was just an exceptional human being and he stood up for the right things in government and he stood against the corruption that had plagued our government before he became Governor," said Susan Dobbs O'Brian, a family friend.
He passed away on Wednesday at 92 years old and his family held his funeral at St. Anne's Church in Annapolis.
