BALTIMORE — Like many of their fellow colleges, UMBC has postponed their Fall 2020 sports season.

The America East Conference Board of Presidents made the announcement Friday.

“We are heartbroken for our student-athletes and coaches, who have been diligently preparing during the current pandemic for a return to competition, and who now face a fall without intercollegiate competition,” said UMBC Athletics Director Brian Barrio. “The emotional and mental impact of that loss is considerable – and our staff will be here to support these members of the Retriever family in any way that we can.

Team training, practices, strength and conditioning, and academic support will still go on with proper safety protocols in place.

The conference will make decisions regarding winter sports at a later date.

Thus far local colleges including Johns Hopkins, Loyola and Towson Universities, as well as Morgan and Coppin State have postponed their 2020 fall sports seasons.
