The 49ers are reportedly releasing veteran wide receiver Torrey Smith, according to NFL Network analyst Steve Smith Sr.

Smith signed a five-year, $40 million contract, with $22 million in guarantees in 2015. By releasing Smith, the 49ers will save $4.8 million on the cap.

In two season in San Francisco, Smith struggled. He compiled 930 yards and seven touchdowns on 53 receptions in 23 games.

Smith was drafted by the Ravens in 2011 and played four seasons in Baltimore. He played collegiate football for the University of Maryland.
