COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Maryland men’s basketball freshman phenom Jalen Smith said he will return to the team for his sophomore season in 2019-2020, Terps head coach Mark Turgeon announced Monday.
The Baltimore native was an All-Big Ten Freshman Team selection this past season, averaging 11.7 points and 6.8 rebounds a game while starting 33 contests for Maryland this year. Smith came on late, going on a tear in the Terps’ two NCAA Tournament games, averaging 17 points, and 10 rebounds in the opening and second rounds of the tourney before Maryland fell to LSU.
“I'm excited to return to Maryland for my sophomore year and advance my education as I continue to develop both on and off the court with my teammates and coaching staff,” Smith said. “This past season was an amazing experience and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for our team. I'm appreciative of Coach Turgeon, the staff, my teammates and Terp Nation for all of their support.”
