BALTIMORE — Baltimore Raven Brandon Carr has created a program to share his love for reading with children by launching LitBuddies.

The program is a subscription box which is filled with books and educational games for kids.

The literacy box will officially launch October 1 in select elementary schools in Baltimore City Public Schools to raise awareness of the importance and value in reading among youth.

More than 100 literacy boxes will be distributed to Baltimore-area students.

The program will include digital reading tools children and families may access online at LitBuddies.com. The LitBuddies box also will be available for purchase for families across the country.

“Reading books always allowed my mind to escape from the outside world and also sparked a lot of my creativity,” Carr said. “I try to tell students to use reading as a way to learn and explore different topics they may be interested in."
