On the Sidelines with Shawn Stepner is a podcast focused on what makes sports figures from Baltimore and Maryland tick, from life in the game to life away from the field, court or ice.

For Episode Two WMAR-2 Sports Reporter Shawn Stepner sits down with UMBC head men’s basketball coach Ryan Odom.

In only two seasons Coach Odom has taken the Retrievers program to a place where few thought it could ever go.  He led UMBC to the biggest upset in college basketball history last March when the Dogs topped Virginia in the NCAA Tournament.  The victory marked the first time a No. 16 seed defeated a No. 1 seed.

Odom dives deep into some of his memories from that tournament run, what it’s like to grow up as the son of a prominent college hoops coach, the long road that led him to Baltimore and more.

He also shares how his son battles Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and offers advice to other individuals and families dealing with the same illness.
