Tom Flacco, the starting quarterback for the Towson Tigers and the little brother of Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl winner Joe Flacco, is competing among 25 other Football Championship Series players as a finalist for the 2018 STATS Walter Payton Award.

Since 1987, the award is given out each season to the top offensive player in FCS football.

Flacco, a red-shirt junior, ranks third in FCS with 348 yards of total offense per game, seventh with 284 passing yards a game, and sixth with 23.55 completions per game. At the end of the regular season, Flacco had thrown for 3,124 passing yards and 27 passing touchdowns as well as 704 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. He helped lead the Tigers to a 7-4 record and their first playoff berth since 2013, Towson University Athletics said.

If Flacco were to win the award, he'd be the second Towson player to do so after Dave Meggett captured the accolade in 1988.

The Tigers begin their playoff push Saturday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. against Duquesne.
