BALTIMORE — This week was Teacher and Nurses Appreciation Week and many are finding different ways to honor our unsung heroes.
One of those people is DJ Carl Jr.
From 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, DJ Carl Jr. is hosting a virtual party to pay tribute to nurses and teachers.
Each will be honored not only with some fun music, DJ Carl Jr. is encouraging people to upload photos and give warm notes of thanks in the comment threads, some of which will be read during the party.
DJ Carl Jr. also works at Johns Hopkins on the NICU and his wife is a special education teacher.
How he went from a hospital to a turn-table has to do with late Baltimore Colt and Hall of Fame Quarterback Johnny Unitas. He was able to talk to Unitas because he was recovering from a surgery related to a congenital heart defect.
While they were talking Unitas was asking Carl what he liked to do, and since he is into music Unitas suggested he become a DJ.
Now DJ Carl Jr. is dedicated to giving back to the community and has been hosting virtual dance parties since the very first week of Maryland's quarantine back in March. He says his parties have logged over 20,000 viewers!
