BALTIMORE — As the Department of Public Works continues its struggle to keep up with city trash and recycling, Wheelabrator Baltimore is stepping in.

Each Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm, Wheelabrator is supplying 30-yard roll-off recycling dumpsters throughout the city.

This weekend they will be in Fells Point and Riverside. Wheelabrator is also paying to have the recyclables taken to a processing facility.

In August DPW stopped recycling pickup, instead opting for community drop-offs.

That has resulted in complaints of illegal dumping, as covered by WMAR-2 News.

Earlier this week, the Baltimore City Council Housing and Urban Affairs Committee held a hearing with DPW on the impacts COVID-19 has had on the agency's ability to collect trash and recycling.

In the meantime, Wheelabrator says they plan to have dumpsters in Brewers and Butchers Hill in the coming weeks, as well as other neighborhoods in need.
