We just celebrated Maryland Day, which pays tribute to the birthday of our beloved state. 385 years ago on March 25, 1634, the first settlers got off two ships called the Ark and the Dove and made Maryland their home.
Discussing Maryland Day of course led to a conversation about what are some classic Maryland dishes, and the crab cake came up time and time again. So there's little debate that it is one of, if not THE, most well-known Maryland dish.
But when you ask where is the best place to eat a crab cake, get ready to put on the boxing gloves.
As my friend and fellow foodie Dara Bunjon wrote on my Facebook page, "Best crab cake in Maryland, that is a loaded question. You will never get everyone to agree on that one."
All the more reason to ask it!
When I asked the question on my Facebook page, I got a lot of responses. After doing a tally, here are the results:
1. Box Hill Pizzeria in Abingdon
2. Jimmy's Seafood (this also tied with the response "my own" crab cake)
3. Costas Inn in Dundalk, Pappas and G&M Restaurant in Linthicum Heights all tied for third
Honorable mentions include Koco's Pub and Timbuktu.
