ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Travelers crossing the Chesapeake Bay next week may run into some slowdowns when utilizing the Bay Bridge.

The bridge’s westbound span will be closed from 10 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, until 5 a.m. Monday, March 11. The closures will continue Monday through Wednesday, March 13, with the lanes closing at 8 p.m. and re-opening at 5 a.m. the next morning. Beginning Thursday, March 14, the lanes will close at 9 p.m. and re-open at 5 a.m. Friday, March 15. That Friday evening, the lanes will again close at 10, then re-open at 7 a.m. Saturday, March 16. Saturday night, lanes will close at 9 p.m. and re-open 8 a.m. Sunday, March 17.

The closures are to perform preserving maintenance work and to conduct routine inspection, the Maryland Transportation Authority said in a statement. All work is weather permitting. Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound spans while westbound lanes are closed. Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

Beginning Monday, March 10 and lasting through Thursday, March 14, one lane of the eastbound span will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily so that preservation maintenance work can be performed, MDTA said. The closure will also occur on Friday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. During these closures, two-way traffic will operate on the westbound spans.

Also, Monday through Friday, one bridge lane may close at any time for about 15 minutes for contractor pick up.
