TIMONIUM, Md. — The Maryland State Fairgrounds houses a clinic which can vaccinate more than a thousand people per day, and Sam Miller and her husband say the process is much more timely and simple than many may imagine.
“From the time we got to the parking lot until we got back in our car, it was literally 30 minutes,” said Miller, a Kingsville resident.
The one thing holding back what, to date, has been the most successful vaccination program rolled out at the local level in the state is the limited supply of the vaccine.
“If I’m getting about 5,000… 7,000 vaccines per week and I’ve got 150,000 people on that list, I’m obviously not going down that queue that quickly right?” said Baltimore County Health Officer Dr. Gregory Branch.
Now, county leaders are celebrating news that the federal government is purchasing 200 million more doses and that it will increase its distribution to states beginning next week.
“The president also announced they will begin telling states how much vaccine they will receive three weeks out instead of week by week as has been the case in weeks prior,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “I’m hopeful that Governor Hogan and his team will, in turn, make more vaccines available to us in local government and give us the same three-week look ahead that the federal government will be providing to states.”
It is a hope shared by some of the state’s most vulnerable citizens.
“The sooner we all get vaccinated, the sooner we can hug our grandchildren again, we can celebrate birthdays, we can go to football games, we can live life again,” added Miller.
Even if its not yet available for you now, the county executive is encouraging all residents to register for the vaccine so it will move quickly when it is.
