BALTIMORE — On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended that everyone in K-12 schools wear masks, regardless of their vaccination status.
The about face comes as new COVID-19 cases are beginning to rise throughout the nation, thanks in large part to the highly more contagious Delta Variant.
WMAR-2 News has been in contact with school systems throughout the state to find out if or when they plan to require masks in their buildings.
So far no districts have made a final determination, but almost all of them said the matter is being discussed.
Frederick County Public Schools said they could make an announcement before the end of the week.
Tuesday's new mask guidance isn't only for schools.
The CDC is even recommending those who've been vaccinated, to wear masks indoors if they are in parts of the U.S. currently experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases.
No jurisdiction in the state has decided to reimpose mask mandates at this time.

In Maryland there have been 416 new cases reported over the last 24 hours with 19 new hospitalizations, bringing the state's positivity rate to 2.45 percent.
Governor Larry Hogan on Tuesday said, "nearly every Marylander who has been hospitalized or died from COVID-19 over the last several weeks has been unvaccinated."
According to health officials, just 0.07 percent of those in the state who've been vaccinated have received a breakthrough infection.
As of Wednesday, 266 cases of the Delta Variant have been detected in Maryland.
