MDOT MTA will offer free transit rides for all U.S. military veterans, active-duty military, and members of the National Guard and Reserves on Veterans Day.
They stated offering a day of free, unlimited transit rides is a way to honor the commitment and service of America’s military personnel.
“For the second year in a row, MDOT MTA is proud to have veterans and military personnel ride for free on the day that recognizes their service to our nation,” said MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn. “Now more than ever, we want to show our gratitude for their sacrifice and commitment to our country.
Free transit rides will be available on MDOT MTA Local Bus, Metro SubwayLink, Light RailLink, MARC Train and Commuter Bus.
To qualify for a free ride, active and retired military members will need to show an ID under one of three classifications:
- U.S. Department of Defense issued ID (Armed Forces/Uniformed Services/Military Retiree);
- U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs issued ID;
- Maryland MVA Veteran designation on a driver’s license or state ID.
“Men and women who serve in the military help protect the freedoms and opportunities Americans hold dear,” said MDOT Secretary Greg Slater. “We’re proud to give them a lift on Veterans Day. It’s a small way to say thanks for the lift they give us all.”
