BALTIMORE — WMAR-2 News is committed to improving the lives of Veterans in Maryland by shining a light on their stories, struggles and triumphs. Every week a local veteran will be featured in our Veteran Spotlight contest.
This week's nominee is John Fenwick of Baltimore City, who served in the United States Navy as an Airmen from 1955 to 1959.
After the military, he worked for the post office for 30 years and spent another 17 years working at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
Today, Fenwick is focusing on making the community a better place. He is a deacon at Calvary Christian Church in Overlea and is very involved in victories in Christ Jesus Outreach, as well as, Zion Baptist Church, Dream Life Christian Church and Cornerstone Church of Christ Bible Study Groups.
He dedicates his time to those battling substance abuse and provides those in need with food, clothes and friendship. In doing so, he has made a profound difference in many lives and has left a lasting impression on his former colleague, Jerry Thomas, who nominated him for this award.
Thomas calls Fenwick a true inspiration and a trailblazer for his friends and family.
