ELLICOTT CITY, Md. — WMAR-2 News is committed to improving the lives of Veterans in Maryland by giving light to their stories, struggles and triumphs. Every week a local veteran will be featured in our Veteran Spotlight contest.

This week we are honoring John Kauffman of Ellicott City. Kauffman served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and was deployed overseas shortly after 9/11.

When Kauffman returned from deployment, he requested a conditional release so he could serve full time in the army. He was stationed in Germany and Iraq and later joined the Maryland Army National Guard. He is now a recruiter.

Kauffman enjoys volunteering, especially with the homeless community and he is also founder of the Real Time app. It's a tool that allows you to record events using geographically verifiable time and location.

Thank you for your service to our country and dedication to Maryland.
