Veteran Spotlight: Martin Jones of Baltimore

BALTIMORE — This week WMAR-2 News is honoring Martin Jones of Northeast Baltimore.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a senior in high school.

After 20 years of service, he retired as a staff sergeant in 2007.

Jones served in every conflict since the first Gulf war and was wounded multiple times in combat.

He says the most difficult part of his deployment was being away from his children.

He doesn’t call himself a hero and says the soldiers that are still serving and the ones that did not come home are the true heroes.

Jones now dedicates his time to feeding homeless veterans and helps them get services and VA benefits that they deserve.

WMAR-2 News thanks you for your service to our country.
