A true taste of Spring today as high temperatures surged well into the 70s across the Baltimore metro area. Definitely a stark contrast from a week ago where we were waking up with temperatures close to 0 degrees.
Today's high in Baltimore registered 71 degrees on the thermometer which was 2 degrees shy of the 1991 record of 73 degrees. This was after a start of 30 degrees completing a 39 degree swing from this morning into the early afternoon hours. Last year at this time we had highs in the mid to upper 30s so I guess we can call it improvement after the recent "Deep Freeze".
Even though it may have felt like Spring we are still 43 days from a change in season. The "Temperature Roller Coaster" looks to continue as the chill returns Wednesday and then again for the weekend ahead. Highs Wednesday will be in the 40s before a brief warm-up then a bigger temperature fall comes Saturday and Sunday as highs head back below average.
With the return of cold air comes the chance at wintry weather. Long range models are suggesting this for early next week with a wintry mix likely to arrive Monday into Tuesday. Of course this potential mess is still 7 days out and is likely to change so stay tuned!!
For now enjoy the warmth while we got it because Maryland weather in February could always free-fall at a moments notice!
