Excessive Heat Warning

Heat Wave Continues

Some of the hottest days are upon us! I would not be surprised if Heat Advisories were issued for parts of Maryland as heat indices will be near 105°. An Excessive Heat Warning goes into effect Sunday at noon through 8 pm Monday evening for areas highlighted in purple along the Eastern Shore. An Excessive Heat Warning means heat index values will meet or exceed 110° within the next 12-24 hours. Some locations may even feel like 115° across northern Delmarva.

Here are a few tips on how you can beat the heat! The most important is drinking plenty of water even if you are not thirsty. Limiting your time outdoors is another way you can stay safe from the intense heat. If you have to be outside for an extended period of time, try to find a shaded area nearby and take frequent breaks. Wearing loose-fitting, lightweight, or light-colored clothing will allow air to pass along the skin and exit to speed up the evaporation process and to carry off the excess heat. Always remember to check on your neighbors and family members. Never leave pets or children inside of a closed vehicle.

The culprit for the excessive heat is a strong area of high pressure to our south that is moving eastward. This hot and humid air mass will remain in place through Sunday and Monday with Monday looking to be the hottest day of the stretch as heat indices may climb to 106° near BWI.
