What a difference from Spring to Summer. Just think 2 months ago it was literally raining every single day. Within that time we had the big flood of Ellicott City and numerous weekends that were spent indoors.
Now we are in search of any rain that we can get to help those crispy gardens and brown lawns all across Central Maryland.
Since July began we have only had 0.03" of rain which is 1.46" below average. If you add in the last week of June starting from June 25th we have only had 0.07" of rain. Many locations registering under 0.10" of rain over the last 15+ days. 2018 so far as a whole is 2.74" of rain above average with a yearly total of 24.72". Most of that rain came in April, May, and early June.
Late June and July have proved to be quite dry especially with those stats above. The rain will return though as we get toward the beginning and middle of next week.
Long range models suggest an active pattern with not only much needed rain but cooler conditions as well. At this point we will take it to get those brown lawns and gardens back to normal.
