Saturday, May 18 is the 144th Preakness Stakes that will take place at Pimlico.
The big question: Is it going to rain? I can't answer that simply by saying yes or no. What I can say is that there is a chance for rain. Let me break it down further.
The Preakness forecast this year is challenging because a backdoor cold front (a cold front that moves in from the East or Northeast, not the typical cold front that comes in from the West or Northwest) will be draped somewhere across the Mid-Atlantic. The challenge comes in figuring out where the front is located and how it will track into Saturday. If the front stays somewhat stationary overhead there will be more rain and possibly thunderstorms.
Right now, there is a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday with the chance of a passing shower late in the day. It will be warm with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that Preakness isn't a soaker like it was last year! Temperatures this year in the 70s will make for a "Baby Bear" forecast...temperatures not too hot, like in 2015 and not too cold, like in 2016 but just right!!
