An area of low pressure is passing to our north. The system is expected to intensify offshore and develop into a coastal low later today. This will bring a prolonged strong wind event to the region. A high wind warning is in effect through Saturday morning for the Baltimore metro and all surrounding counties.

Winds have already exceeded 40-50 mph this morning, and we could see higher gusts as the morning continues.

Widespread tree damage and difficult travel are expected. In fact, there are wind restrictions for the Bay Bridge, Key Bridge & Nice Bridge. House trailers, empty box trucks not permitted to cross. Speed limits on bridges are reduced to 40 mph.

Power outages are also a big concern throughout the day. As of 5:30am, more than 47,000 customers are without power across the state of Maryland.
